jQuery is a Development Option for SharePoint Server 2013

jQuery is a development option for SharePoint Server 2013. What’s special about this opportunity? jQuery is a set of functions for Javascript developed as an open source project. The fact SharePoint administrators, developers, architects and even power users can opt to write processes, including “Apps” with jQuery functions represents a welcome break from previous development paradigms requiring comparable development with C# code.

Rehmani Consulting, Inc. has released a unique set of video training content on this topic. Now individuals and groups can purchase SP13-306 SharePoint 2013: Javascript and jQuery DVD. Our series is authored by Marc Anderson, a SharePoint MVP and acknowledged authority on this topic. The course is intended for an audience of SharePoint administrators, developers, designers and architects, though power users are sure to benefit too.

In the first video tutorial in the series, “Understanding jQuery”, Marc Anderson presents the history of jQuery as an open source project. He also touches on the benefit of jQuery. With jQuery developers can build processes with a set of functions built to work perfectly in processes written in Javascript (in fact all of the functions are written in Javascript) but without the verbosity typically required when comparable functions are built with Javascript, itself. So the same functions written in the past with 10-12 lines of code can now be written in 2 or 3 lines.

The SharePoint Server 2013 “App” model is designed for Javascript. jQuery is therefore a perfect tool for developers to use to produces “Apps” in a comparatively shorter amount of time.

Marc Anderson also notes in this video tutorial how jQuery provides a welcome break for developers who were restricted to C# as a development language for SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint 2010. Since jQuery is pure Javascript, and Javascript applications are entirely comprised of ASCII text files, jQuery is truly light weight and robust.
