Microsoft’s Business Critical SharePoint web site presents a series of high value solutions presented along with supporting success stories. SharePoint stakeholders may benefit from reviewing some of the information on this web site before commencing work on an implementation plan for SharePoint. Many of the examples presented illustrate how valuable features of SharePoint, for example, workflows, can be used to expose data from LoB applications to:
- reduce duplication of efforts and to minimize the risk of overlapping applications
- streamline procedures and ensure personnel involvement is as efficient as possible. This method lowers operating costs while, at the same time, the quality of results is improved
- provide central management with the visibility into business silos they require to successfully manage day to day business, while ensuring the attainment of stated organizational objectives
SharePoint-Videos offers over 40 video training courses on workflows for SharePoint 2007, 2010 and 2013. We also offer over fifty video tutorials on SharePoint search, another high value feature of SharePoint discussed on this Microsoft® web site, and nearly forty tutorials on content types in SharePoint. Successfully building content types for documents specific to an organization is an important component of almost any of the success story examples published on Microsoft’s web site.
All of this training content can be curated into curricula, including presentations on workflows, search, content types, Metadata Management Service, and, lastly, project management (the human activity required to pull all of the pieces of a “Business Critical SharePoint Solution” together). These curricula, in turn, can be consumed by administrators, developers, designers, architects and stakeholders. The result can be a successful effort to capture more value from SharePoint than would otherwise be the case if external resources, substantially less knowledgeable about the inner workings of a specific organization, were called in to do the work.
If your organization would like to collect the thoughts of a third party as you explore methods of addressing internal needs for better data management and decision-making, please let us know. We will be happy to discuss any of the case study examples on the Business Critical SharePoint Solutions web site with you.
