VisualSPtm Uses Silverlight to Deliver Video Tutorials for SharePoint 2010

VisualSP from Rehmani Consulting, Inc. uses Microsoft® Silverlight® to deliver present full motion video tutorials directly from the SharePoint 2010 ribbon. By opting for Silverlight as our video delivery method, we capitalized on the fact (as pointed out in a January 16, 2012 blog post on CMSWire authored by Chris Wright) that, “[i]n fact[,] the out-of-the-box SharePoint 2010 media webpart is a Silverlight control.”

There are other technical efficiencies, stemming from Silverlight, that benefit VisualSP. However, the fact that Silverlight has been designed for use with SharePoint 2010 ultimately delivers the most benefit to SharePoint end users who can rely on Silverlight to safely deliver full motion video content consistently and with complete accuracy. Contrary to some popular opinions (for example, including an opinion by Chris Wright that was included in the blog post that we have quoted above), we don’t see an imminent demise for Silverlight; rather, we see good indicators of efforts on Microsoft’s part to encourage Silverlight development for Windows 8.

With Silverlight, it should be clear that VisualSP, as an application, is entirely native to the SharePoint 2010 environment that it was designed to enhance. Use of our product should not degrade SharePoint performance, regardless of how often specific video tutorials are accessed by end users for training purposes. End users should expend absolutely minimal effort to access video training content; therefore, the training experience ought to be an enjoyable one for them. We are confident that enterprise management will likely agree that SharePoint end users will be much more likely to use a training aid, like ours, when the experience is enjoyable than would otherwise be the case if the experience were considered a burden.

With regard to locating training content, it should be noted that the text file created by Silverlight as an accompaniment to the rest of the application lends itself to SharePoint search. Further, this same text content may prove useful to the task of compiling usage statistics on end user training.

All told, features like Silverlight add to the attractiveness of VisualSP. We invite anyone to review our web page and related promotional materials. If your organization is in need of an end user training solution, please consider our products and training content. We will be happy to schedule a demonstration of our application, or a short review of any of our video training content.
